So, the day care is wearing thin on my nerves. I got a call at work yesterday afternoon that my daughter would have to be picked up because she had a fever of 101.9 (since they add a degree, it was only 100.9--stupid). Luckily, Gonz was home and able to pick her up. I couldn't leave since I'd only been there about 3 hours as it was. I came in late because the two youngest kids had their one and two year check-ups yesterday. I got there at noon and the day care called a little after 3. So, according to them, she can't return to school until she is without a fever for 24 hours. 100.9 isn't really a high fever, in my opinion. So, here I am, home again. My boss was not happy to hear that I wouldn't be in today. He basically said he couldn't do his job if he was doing mine. And, he's right. If I don't get fired over this, it'll be amazing. I've missed at least one day of work every week for the last 4 weeks. That on top of the fact that I had to take the next week and a half off because the day care is closed from this Friday until January 3. I know, I'm a pain in the ass from a management stand point.
During the check-up yesterday the doctor found that MyK has a heart murmur. We have to take her to the Heart Hospital in Indianapolis next week for tests. Hopefully it's nothing major. The doc said that at the very least, she'd just have to take antibiotics before she does certain things and she should be OK until she's older. She may have to take heart meds. But, that's way, way in the future. I am concerned because heart disease runs on both sides of her family. POC are also genetically predisposed to heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. So, that worries me a bit that she may have that added chance of heart disease.
The doc also told us that the baby is over weight. He's a big kid. Taller than average for 1 year and definitely heavier. He is only roughly 4 pounds lighter than MyK and she's a full year older. She said to not put him on a "diet", but to watch what he eats. *sigh*
I guess it's time for me to start taking our health seriously. As the primary cook in our house, it's up to me to serve heart healthy meals. I don't serve a lot of junk, but I know that I'm not as cautious as I should be when it comes to watching sugar, salt and fat intake. I will try to do better.
In other news, I've started wrapping presents and I had forgotten how bad I am at it. I prefer gift bags and colorful tissue paper. If I didn't think the babies would tear them apart before Christmas, I would.
I guess that's it for now. Off to finish the kitchen and fold some laundry. I'm trying to take advantage of the time home to catch up on housework.
