I got up a little earlier than usual today so that I could get the kids off to day care by 6 and get to my poll location by 6:05. I have never ever had to wait in line to vote at the assessor's office. This morning, it took me 30 minutes just to get in the door. By the time I got inside, it took another 20 minutes to complete the process. I was about 10 minutes late to work, but I got the deed done. Now comes the wait to find out who benefited from the millions of dollars spent on both sides to become the next President.

From the IRS website:

Q. I chose direct deposit for my 2007 tax refund but also requested a refund anticipation loan (RAL) from my preparer. How does that affect my stimulus payment?

A. Taxpayers who use RALs or enter into any other loan or financial agreement with their tax professional cannot receive their stimulus payments by direct deposit and instead will get a paper check.

So, if you used Turbotax or H&R Block and got a rapid refund, you will not get your direct deposit as anticipated. I should have gotten my stimulus payment yesterday and when I didn't, I immediately started looking around for why. It would have been nice to know this before I started kind of spending the money. Not massive amounts, probably less than $40, but still. So, if you're wondering why you haven't received anything, this is why. Start checking your mail box next week, kids.

First Grade Artwork

Tyson's class did a little project where they were all interviewed about their favorite things and then drew a self portrait on their individual papers. Tyson's picture was pretty cute, he is showing his Husky Pride (Husky's are the team mascot for his school).

After each of the children completed their artwork, the photos were laminated and bound together in a book. Each child takes the book home for a night to share with their families. All of the photos were pretty typical of first grade art work. Until, we got to Zack's photo. Keep in mind these are supposed to be 'self-portraits'.

Ron and I saw this at about the same time as I was flipping the pages of the book and we both just got wide eyed and then fell out laughing. This was just the best picture ever....EVER!!!

There is a petition circulating to have this case reviewed by the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. Please go here and sign it if you are so inclined. We as a nation can not allow children to go to prison for school yard fights. Of course, there is more to this than just a school yard scrape. This is about racism, plain and simple.

The sentencing of these young boys is scheduled to happen today in Jena. I watched my local news last night and I was very close to throwing something at the TV when the reporter said they were on trial for beating a white classmate up. No explanation as to what led to the fight, the harassment, the nooses, the loaded weapon that was brandished at the boys at a local gas station. She simply said that the 6 black youths were on trial for beating up one white youth. That's it. Don't rely on your local news to get information about what's going on in the world. That is part of the reason that so many people are unaware of the racial tension in this country...no one seems to want to report it. The Jena Six got 30 seconds on our local news, but these idiots got a good 5 minutes. And yes, there was video. Yeah. She was charged for her outrageous behavior, too.

Anyway, the whole point of this is that we need to do something about this. More people need to know the truth about what is happening to these young men.

They See Me Rollin'...

After I dropped the children off at the day care this morning I took my usual route out of town through a residential neighborhood to the main highway. As I turned the corner to leave town, I saw a little doggy trotting into the street. I stopped the truck and waited for him to get across. As he got about halfway into the street, he looked up and saw my headlights. He just stood there. So, I honked my horn in the hopes that he would realize there was a vehicle in the road and the chances of him getting smashed into a tiny smear on the road was pretty high. Instead of running away from the big, shiny red truck, he ran toward it. At this point, I put the truck in park because I couldn't see him any more and I didn't want to run him over.

I hopped out of the truck and walked around to the front to see what happened to him. When I leaned down, I saw him sitting on the ground, just in front of the front tire on the drivers side. This is a problem. I couldn't move the truck because I'd run him over, but I also couldn't sit in the middle of a dark road at 6:30 in the morning either. So, in my best Mommy voice, I started talking to him. "Come on doggy. Let's go. Come out from under there, Baby." When I called him Baby, he immediately flipped over on his back, legs in the air, inviting me to rub his belly. Great. I'm not really a fan of petting stray animals, so I put my hand down close so he could sniff it. It smells like coconut hand lotion. He jumped up and trotted towards me. I then started shooing him across the street. Just at that moment, a hot rod dude in a Mustang pulled up to the side street. Without even looking to see what I was doing, he whipped out around me...headed straight towards the dog. He saw the little guy at the last minute and swerved to miss him. THAT scared the crap out the dog and he ran away. I hopped in my truck and tore out of there as fast as I could because I did not have time to go back and play "find the puppy" again.

The nurse called last night with the results of the CAT scan. I have calcium deposits in my right kidney. Along with the calcium deposits are several small kidney stones. They are not large enough to warrant an ultrasound to break them up, but they are just big enough that they will hurt when they come out. So, I need to drink lots of water to try and flush my kidneys out and I have Vicodin to take when the pain is a little bit on the OMGWTF! side.

I can feel when they move about in there and the pain is somewhat reminiscent of the small contractions (Braxton Hicks) that I would have back when I was pregnant. Apparently, it just gets worse. Yay for me. Double yay for prescription narcotics. :)

In other news, the movie/pizza party is all set. Tyson is bringing along Eric, Isaiah and Jake to the party. Should be interesting. We'll catch the movie at 12:15 and then pop over to Pizza Hut for a couple pizzas. If Chuck E. Cheese was closer and we had more time, I'd take them all there. But, Eric's parents need him back home early in the afternoon. Pizza Hut will still be fun, though. I just hope I can make it throughout the day without being hopped up on ~~goobers~~ Vicodin.

I'm picking up Tyson's new bike today and I'll hide it in the garage until Thursday morning. After talking with his Pediatrician on Friday, I've decided against the Heely's. She said that she has seen quite a few kids with head injuries over the course of the summer from falling while using them. Dr. Rowe said she felt they were dangerous and didn't recommend that he try them just yet. So, that helped with my decision. I may get him a new Game Boy game to go along with the bike...have to check the finances and pray that I get a child support check next week.

Ron has purchased himself a brand spankin' new Dodge pick-up truck. It is drop dead gorgeous! It's bright red with these huge chrome wheels and it drives like a car rather than a big truck. It has all the luxury items you could want on it and more. He's such a sweetie for letting me drive it to work today. All the men are drooling over it. Hahahaha!!

I still haven't given up on my quest to own a Dodge Nitro. We are going to go to the dealership where he purchased his truck tomorrow. They gave him a heck of a deal and really worked to earn his business. Maybe they can work a little magic for me. I've already decided that if I don't buy this Nitro tomorrow, I'm done looking until next year.

Tyson has been going to football camp all week from 5:30 - 7:00 and I must admit, the boy is amazing to me. Last year, if you recall, he was being a total spaz at football practice and I threatened to yank him off the team if he didn't straighten up. This year, we've come a full 180 and he's rocking on the field. He does as he's told, pays attention and is catching just about every thing they throw at him. Just like with baseball, he's grown and matured and playing much better football. I think he's just going to get better and better. And bigger and bigger! I had to buy him some new summer outfits and a new pair of tennis shoes as he's outgrown everything that I bought not even 6 months ago. I need a hook-up at Levi Strauss and over at the Sketchers corporation. My little boy loves his Sketchers but this time I got Nikes - they were on sale - and he seemed to really like them. See, change is good. :)

I canceled my paid subscription to Launchast Plus yesterday because I didn't see the point in paying for it when I can use Pandora for free. I canceled it before going back and logging in to Pandora - bad move. Pandora now locks my computer up and forces me to have to reboot. I still don't want to pay for internet radio right now, though. I'm back to Launchcast, just the free version. Man, it sucks. Too many commercials.

Wow, talk about a long and rambling post about nothing. I'm the Jerry Sienfeld of the blogging world.

I have totally blown off figuring out what I am taking to the family reunion this weekend, and now I have about 12 hours to figure out what I'm going to take, buy the ingredients and make it! So, gimme some suggestions. It's a pitch in deal and we are going to be at the park. What are some of your favorite things to have at a picnic? Nothing too fancy, but super tasty.
